Pipers get tight through the palm, forearm, and thumb from constant gripping. Trainer John points out we do a lot of flexion and very little extension in these muscles, which makes them prone to tightness and repetitive strain.
A few quick palm and thumb stretches, held five to ten seconds, keep circulation going. You can rotate the wrist in and out while maintaining backward pressure on the fingers, then repeat a simple thumb-to-forearm stretch on both sides.
A wall stretch adds the forearm and shoulder, with a neck rotation for extra range. Press your palm flat against a wall at shoulder height, straighten your arm, and turn your head away to deepen the stretch through the forearm and shoulder.
