A false low-A crossing noise usually comes from lifting the ring finger and little finger at the same instant instead of one after the other. I isolate the crossing noise by moving from C to E very slowly and listening for the split second where both fingers are half-lifted; the fix is practicing the ring finger lifting first, then the little finger, until the gap disappears.
A grip and a taorluath are built from the exact same low-G idea, just with one extra gracenote added. A grip is a low G dropped between two notes; a taorluath is that same low G with a high-G gracenote added on top of it, so once your grip is solid, the taorluath is really just one more small step.
Light D throw and heavy D throw exist for different reasons, and I only ever play the light version myself. The light D throw goes low G, D gracenote, to C, then up to D, while the heavy version drops back to low G and effectively hides a grip to C before D; heavy matters most for band unison since low G is the loudest note in the chanter.
