Get the Pipes Out! — September 24, 2025

⚡ The Short Version

This one is a play-along, not a lecture. I get my pipes out and we work through two of my power exercises together, power doublings and power GDEs, at a slow and steady tempo you can actually follow.
The point of a doubling is the note in the middle, not the gracenotes. Both gracenotes stay small and crisp, the high G gracenote lands right on the beat, and the theme note in between is what you should be able to hear. My goal is for every doubling on the page to be rhythmically identical.
You can tune your pipes hours before you play them if you tune them cold. I had a memorial service gig with no chance to tune on site, so I tuned before the drones and reed had warmed up, marked my hemp with a pen, and put it all back together four hours later. It worked.
