A catchy 4/4 march built from repetition. Wings is a two-part 4/4 march, popular across pipe band grades, where three of its four lines are nearly identical — only one new bar in the second part sets it apart.
Four rhythms, expressed distinctly. The whole tune runs on just four rhythmic building blocks — quarter notes, even eighth-note pairs, dot-cuts, and cut-dots — plus a few ties, and each one needs to sound clearly like what it is.
Learn the rhythm before the embellishments. My advice: nail the rhythm at a slow tempo first, then add the embellishments — it's a much faster path than trying to work out both at once.
