When the Battle's O'er
⚡ The Short Version
One of piping's most commonly played tunes. When the Battle's O'er is a simple 3/4 march that's almost always played right alongside The Green Hills of Tyrol by massed pipe bands.
Hold the dots, keep the grips short. The tune's rhythm is simple — quarter notes, eighth-note pairs, dot-cuts, and tied half notes — but the short B before each grip needs to stay properly short, even coming off a fully-held dotted low A.
Build the tricky grip step by step. Practice the B grip to C on its own first, then add the A and B without cutting anything, and only then start holding the low A and cutting the B — patience gets you there.
