Too Long in This Condition
⚡ The Short Version
One of the great piobaireachds — beautiful melody, not overly long, and structurally rare. It has no taorluath variation at all, which is unusual in piobaireachd, and its crunluath variation uses no conventional crunluath movements — just the open-style, Fosgailte crunluath throughout.
The ground runs on two cadences: the chedre and the edre. The chedre (in bar three) is a backward E doubling — F gracenote, G gracenote on E, then F. The edre (in bar four) is the familiar low-A bass movement: E gracenote to low A, F gracenote to low A, then E.
Variation one is a siubhal built from long-short pairs, with a special three-note treatment before each cadence. Stretch the long notes, keep the short notes gently cut rather than sharply cut, and give the phrase a smooth entrance into the two long notes that follow each cadence.
