The Rowan Tree
⚡ The Short Version
The classic partner to Scotland the Brave. The Rowan Tree is a popular 4/4 march most often played back to back with Scotland the Brave by massed pipe bands, and it's a touch simpler than its famous partner tune.
One tied note runs through the whole tune. The recurring rhythm is a quarter note tied to an eighth note, held for one and a half beats — the same value as a dotted quarter note, just written more clearly.
Watch your tempo through the doublings and the birl. The doubling run in the second part's third bar and the birl in the last bar both need a steady, unhurried beat — rushing either one throws off the tune's effect.
