The Munro's Salute

The Short Version

A short, entry-level piobaireachd you don't hear that often. Just four variations total, with few technical demands in the ground — but it asks for real subtlety of expression, especially in the lengths of the short connecting notes.
It's built on repetition, so getting the phrasing right matters more than technique. The first two bars repeat as bars three and four, and line two has nothing new. Follow the written rhythms and the recording closely to get the right balance between long and short notes.
Variations two and three lean on the fosgailte style, not conventional taorluath or crunluath. Variation two is a GDE pattern rather than a true taorluath, and variation three combines the open-style crunluath (long note, short note, edre) with the conventional crunluath movement.
