The Hawk

The Short Version

A fiddle tune turned hornpipe, with two parts of my own. The Hawk's first two parts were written by fiddler James Hill in the 1800s; I added the third and fourth parts myself in the 1990s after falling for the tune.
Played in the round style, with a hint of dot-cut. The tune is typeset in the round style — sixteenth notes basically even — but I add just a slight hint of dot-cut, landing in the gray area between round and pointed playing.
Control is everything in the fourth part. The repeating arpeggio pattern in part four needs patient metronome work at a slow tempo, building up gradually rather than pushing for speed too soon.
