The Dream Valley of Glendaruel

The Short Version

The Dream Valley of Glendaruel is a two-parted 3/4 retreat march by John MacLellan of Dunoon — one of my personal favorites. Simple but not easy, it's a beautiful, elegant tune that's perfect for warming up or for playing outdoors when your pipes are sounding good.
The one tricky spot is a tied high G in bar three of the first part — clap it out rather than guessing at its length. Think of it as "one-and-two, three-and": the high G doubling starts on beat two, holds through beat three (where you play nothing new), and resolves only when your foot comes up for the next beat.
Hold every note before an embellishment for its full value — never roll early into a D throw, birl, or doubling. This shows up repeatedly: the long high A before a D throw, the F before a birl, and an F doubling coming off an F, where it's especially easy to rush because your finger is already in place.
