Dovecote Park
⚡ The Short Version
Dovecote Park — also called Doocot Park in Scottish pronunciation — is one of my favorite 6/8 marches, and I think it's underplayed. Nothing flashy about it, but it's a solid, satisfying tune that distills everything great about the 6/8 march style.
Every 6/8 march really only has three underlying rhythms, and they all resolve to the same quarter-eighth pattern. Whether it's a plain quarter-eighth, a taorluath into a note, or a dotted-eighth-sixteenth-eighth triplet, they all end on the same plain eighth note — nail that offbeat and the whole style clicks.
Watch every doubling and gracenote that comes off the same note it lands on — it's easy to rush them. F doubling from F, E doubling from high A, G gracenote strikes — in each case, give the first note its full value before rushing into the embellishment.
