The Brown Haired Maiden

The Short Version

A great first 2/4 march. The Brown Haired Maiden is a well-known two-parted 2/4 march that many pipers learn as their very first 2/4 — published in the College of Piping Green Book and ideal for a first competition.
Embellishments are limited. You only need a D throw, half F doublings, a D strike, and high G doublings, plus a few strikes and gracenotes — a manageable set for a beginner tune.
Hold the dots, cut the cuts. The whole tune rides on 2/4 dot-cut rhythm: hold the dotted notes for nearly the full beat so the cut notes stay short, and don't rush the D throws or doublings ahead of the beat.
