Bagpipe Essentials Collection #20: D Doublings
⚡ The Short Version
The D doubling is one of the least common doublings, because the D throw usually takes its place. Most of the time, when an embellishment lands on D, it's the D throw rather than the D doubling — which means pipers often don't get much practice on it.
It's a G gracenote on D, followed by an E gracenote on D. That E gracenote is the tricky part, since it uses the ring finger — for most players, especially right-handers, the least coordinated finger.
Keep the hand loose so the ring finger can actually cooperate. A tight hand makes an already less-coordinated finger even harder to lift cleanly, so relaxation matters more here than in most doublings.
