Bagpipe Essentials Collection #17: Introduction to Doublings

The Short Version

Doublings are piping's biggest category of embellishment. Every note on the nine-note scale gets its own doubling, so there are nine doublings in total.
From F on down, every doubling follows the same two-gracenote pattern. A high G gracenote to the theme note, then a second gracenote — G again on the top hand (F), or D on the bottom hand (C and below) — back to the theme note.
High A and high G doublings are different. Because they sit at the very top of the scale, they don't follow the standard two-gracenote pattern the other seven doublings share.
