Bagpipe Essentials Collection #14: Strikes
⚡ The Short Version
A strike is the mirror image of a gracenote. A gracenote lifts a finger to a note higher than the one you're on; a strike taps a finger down to sound a lower note than the one you're on — it's also called a tap.
Which fingers you tap depends on the note you're striking from. Some strikes are a single finger — an E strike from F, a low A strike from E — while others need two fingers at once, like the B strike (tap to low G) or the two-finger C strike.
Keep strikes light and bouncy, not heavy. Aim for a nice little pop, not a hard press — if a strike is missing, it's often because the finger isn't landing on target, not because it's too light.
