Bagpipe Essentials Collection #12: Tachums
⚡ The Short Version
A tachum is a two-note movement with a D gracenote, and the first note is cut. Think of it as a G gracenote on the first note, then a D gracenote on the second note, where that first note is played very short — the D gracenote and the cut first note are what define it.
It's easiest to understand as a doubling that switches to a lower note. A C doubling is a G gracenote and a D gracenote both on C; a tachum from C to low A is identical except the D gracenote switches to low A instead of playing C again.
Keep the D gracenote small and crisp. It's easy to let that D gracenote get too big — it should be just as small and precise as the high G gracenote that opens the tachum.
