Amazing Grace
⚡ The Short Version
Amazing Grace and Scotland the Brave are the two most popular tunes played on the pipes. It wasn't written for bagpipes originally — it started as a hymn and was later transposed for the chanter.
Every bar ends on a long note, and getting its full value is what makes the tune recognizable. Written here in 3/4, each bar ends with a half note — two full beats. Give it exactly two beats, no more and no less, and don't rush.
The second time through, use the "long E ending" for a sense of closure. Instead of playing an E and then a long D, hold a long E before resolving on the D. If you're playing the tune several times, save that ending for the very last time through.
