The solution to the mysterious curse of the short B.

The Short Version

A B that's never short enough usually comes from lifting the little finger too high. When players go from low A to B, the little finger tends to shoot up along with the ring finger, and that extra height is what makes the B drag on too long.
The fix is to bring the ring finger up to meet the little finger, not the other way around. Keep the little finger at whatever height it settled on for low A, then lift only the ring finger to match it when you play B.
A paper clip around the little finger is a simple way to train this. Holding the little finger in place with a paper clip or your other hand forces the ring finger to lift independently, which is what a clean, short B actually requires.
