The Piper's Ultimate Reed Poker with Jori Chisholm

The Short Version

A reed poker rescues reeds that have gotten too easy. As cane breaks in it softens; once it gets too soft the reed loses stability and starts to chirp or squeal. Poking the reed from inside restores a bright, stable tone instead of forcing you to throw the reed away.
Adjustments should be tiny. Insert the tapered tip only a millimeter or two at a time, then test. The poker moves the staple by thousandths of an inch, and no twisting or torquing is needed.
It works on any chanter reed and travels well. The tapered tip handles both traditional copper-staple and newer seamless brass-staple reeds, and it's small enough to carry a quick fix to a competition or performance.
