Strathspey Triplets

The Short Version

Strathspey triplets have a short-short-long rhythm. Even when written as doublings with gracenotes, they must be played as triplets. Listen to top pipers—you'll hear this rhythm clearly.
Gracenotes should stay small and crisp. Keep both gracenotes of a doubling well separated with the first on the beat. Small gracenotes create clarity.
Practice with Power Strathspey Triplets. This exercise builds strength and control through a pattern of 8, 4, 2, then 1 repetitions of each triplet.
