A perfect doubling is two small, crisp gracenotes with real separation between them. The first gracenote lands precisely on the beat, and the second waits long enough that you can clearly hear the theme note in between.
If a doubling sounds crushed, the fix isn't bigger gracenotes — it's more space. Wait longer before playing the second gracenote so the theme note has room to speak. Bigger gracenotes just make your playing sloppy and slow.
Every doubling from F down to low G follows the same pattern: high G gracenote, theme note, second gracenote, final note. Learn that one pattern and it applies across the whole set — the exercise deliberately leaves out high A and high G doublings because those follow a different shape.
