The trickiest rhythms in piping are the ones where the cut note comes first. Almost every dot cut you have ever played puts the long note on the beat, so when a tune flips it to cut-dot, your instinct fights you. I want you to find those spots before you play a note.
A short beat note gets rushed, so hold the long note before it. Pipers slide the short note ahead of the beat to turn it into a pickup. The fix is to hold the note that comes before it, and to practice with the metronome while deliberately trying to play late.
Pulsing is expression you add on top of the written rhythm. It lengthens the long notes on the strong beats and compresses them on the weak ones, while the short notes stay the same. For a solo 2/4, I set the Piper's Metronome pulse to 7.
