3 Ways to Learn & MASTER the Crunluath & crunluath a mach Bagpipe Embellishments with Jori Chisholm

The Short Version

The crunluath is always two low G's, two low A's, then an E. No matter what theme note precedes it, the skeleton of the crunluath never changes — a D gracenote between the G's, an E gracenote between G and A, and an F gracenote between the A's.
Three ways in: slow breakdown, timing-first, or backward from the end. I teach the crunluath by building it up note by note, by locking in the 6/8 timing between the theme note and the closing E, and by starting at the trickiest part — the F gracenote — and working outward.
Crunluath-a-mach timing is the exact opposite of every other embellishment. Normally you hold the note before a movement and clip the note after; in the a-mach you hit the movement quickly and hold the note after it for the rest of its duration.
