I introduce the Piper's Ultimate Reed Poker, a tool that rescues a chanter reed once it's broken in too far and started to chirp, squeal, or lose stability. The poker's smooth, tapered tip inserts into the reed and gently opens the oval part of the internal staple, restoring a brighter, more stable tone without twisting or torquing.
I demonstrate poking two different squealing reeds live, showing the tiny, millimeter-scale adjustment that clears up the sharp, shrill top hand and stops the squeal. The fix works on both traditional copper-staple reeds and newer seamless brass-staple reeds, since both share the same oval opening the poker targets.
