The Darado and Rodin: The Fun and Challenge of The Special Embellishment

The Short Version

The rodin is a grip with its emphasis flipped. In a grip you lean on the low Gs and keep the D gracenote tiny. In the rodin, the B gracenote is the big note — float it open and pop the low Gs off like quick strikes.
Light fingers unlock the ring finger. The ring finger hates moving while its neighbors clamp down. Seal low G with the lightest possible touch and the B gracenote comes up cleanly; squeezing is what makes you miss it.
Rhythm comes from the theme notes. A grip sounds like a triplet because it has two low Gs plus the ending note. The rodin shrinks the low Gs until only the B and the low A carry it — a one-two sound. Hear the shape and the timing takes care of itself.
