Practice Chanter Workout Session — October 6, 2022

The Short Version

Never change your style within a tune — let the rhythm do the work. When a passage feels different, like the tricky third part of Sound of Sleat, the fix is understanding that the composer wrote a distinct rhythmic pattern there, not that you should shift how you're playing.
Pulsing means stretching the front half of the beat, never the cut note. I show exactly how beat emphasis works on the bagpipe: lengthen the first long note of a beat and compress the second half, and never hold a cut note longer to fake an accent.
Master the dot-cut before you add pulsing. The order of operations matters — lock in clean notes, a steady tempo, and short cut notes first, then layer pulsing on top, using a tool like the Piper's Metronome app to hear how much is enough.
