A water trap tube carries moisture away from your blowpipe stock and out of your breath before it hits the bag. The classic version is just a length of tubing running from your blowpipe stock into the bag, condensing and catching moisture along the way so less of it ends up soaking your bag and reeds.
Both common commercial options have a real downside: one needs a hemp joint that can crack your stock, the other can't be dumped mid-session. A hemp-mounted fitting can expand when it gets wet and stress a wooden blowpipe stock, while a ridged tube like the Bannatyne system catches moisture well but won't pour out until you take the whole thing apart.
I built my own version from a repurposed rubber cup, a hose barb elbow, and smooth pond tubing. It fits around the outside of the stock instead of inside it, uses smooth tubing so I can dump it mid-session, and still connects to a bottle with a chamois for extra moisture control.
