A piobaireachd's structure tells you how to phrase it. Working out whether a tune is a rhythm tune or a melody tune, and where its two-bar phrases mirror or invert each other, gives you a real roadmap for interpretation instead of just playing through it from top to bottom.
Bagpipes can't do dynamics, so phrasing has to do the work instead. With no volume control on the instrument, shape and emphasis have to come from timing, held notes, and the balance between phrases — not from playing louder or softer.
Memorize early, not at the end. Getting a tune off the page and into your ear as soon as possible — recording yourself, listening back, singing it — lets you spend the rest of your practice time on interpretation rather than note-reading.
