Practice Chanter Workout Session — April 2, 2021

The Short Version

Minimum necessary tension is the whole game. Whatever amount of finger pressure and hand tension you think you need, you can probably reduce it — excess tension is what makes fast, clean movements like doublings and birls so much harder than they need to be.
A B-strike isn't a strength problem, it's a timing and form problem. The instinct to hit the strike harder when it doesn't come out clean is almost always the wrong fix — the real issue is usually in exactly how and when the fingers move, not how forcefully.
Slow practice hides bad habits unless you watch for them deliberately. It's easy to play with too much tension when you're going slowly, precisely because slow feels safe — that's a habit you have to consciously catch and undo before building speed.
