What is “scissoring” and how can you avoid it?

Feb 12, 2014
Fingering & Technique,Practice Tips,Videos

In the earliest stages of your piping journey, you first learned the nine notes of the bagpipe scale. Then you probably were introduced to simple grace notes: first played on the same note, and then played when changing notes. Some note transitions are quite easy (e.g., Low G to Low A, or E to F) because they only involve one finger. Other note transitions are a bit trickier because they involve precise timing of several fingers (e.g. D to E). Today's video lesson focuses on an important detail that allows you to play some of the more difficult grace note/note combinations with the same clarity and consistency as the easier combinations. Watch the high resolution video to learn: what is "scissoring" and how can you avoid it? Enjoy! Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Please post them below to continue the discussion. Thanks!
