Recommended stuff

Here are links to some of the websites, tools, and gadgets that have been featured and recommended here at the BagpipeLessons.com Studio:

  • The Bagpipe Gauge - the best way to learn to blow your pipes stronger and steadier
  • Video Lesson Downloads - step-by-step demonstrations of all of the essential techniques for playing the pipes
  • Tune Lesson Downloads - complete lessons on over 70 of the most popular pipe tunes, includes the sheet music, mp3 of the tune played on the pipes, an mp3 lesson, and bonus pdf.
  • Saul Tuner
  • HBT Tuner - email me for a possible discount on this item
  • Electrical Tape for Chanter Tuning - nothing beats this inexpensive stuff
  • Reed poker/mandrel - essential for taking a reed that has gotten too easy and making it solid again. From Tartantown or Apps.
  • Swiss army knife - the classic. I like the tiny one with knife and scissors
  • x-acto knife - nice and sharp for working with reeds.
  • 600 grit sand paper - perfect for sanding reeds.
  • Orthodontic elastics - for using on your pipe chanter reeds to make them easier to blow. I like the 1/4" size in Heavy or Extra-Heavy strength.
  • Rubber tubing mouthpiece protector - why buy the thin, yet expensive, individual pre-cut bagpipe mouthpiece protectors when you can buy the thicker stuff by the foot for a fraction of the price. I like the 7/16" thickness in black.
  • Dropbox - YouTube is great for sharing videos but Dropbox is by far the best way to share files (mp3s, pdfs, etc.) And it's free! Sign up here.
Drop me a note if you think of other helpful items that can be added to the list. Thanks!
