In today's post, we have an in-depth interview with our newest guest writer and one of the piping world's most fascinating people, Matthew Welch. Matt has an incredible combination of experience and skills that are unique in the world. He's a former World Champion and top-level soloist. Matt is the Pipe Major of the New York Metro Pipe Band. And, he's also a classically trained composer with a particular expertise and interest in avant-garde composition. Matt plays bagpipes, saxophone, and sings with Blarvuster, a chamber ensemble/rock band hybrid he created to feature his compositions. Matt is in the final stages of receiving his PhD in Music Yale University. I recently sat down with Matt over Skype and enjoyed one of the most fascinating conversations I've ever had about all things piping, and more! We covered a ton of ground, so if there's a topic you'd like us to revisit here on the Studio, please post ...
