Understand the Zeigarnik effect to remember your past accomplishments and build confidence

As the weeks and days countdown to an upcoming performance or competition, it sometimes feels like things are getting worse. Or you might feel that your deliberate practice often leads to a never-ending and constantly growing list of things that need to be learned, fixed, refined, and reworked. Don't panic. You may be experiencing the Zeigarnik effect. The Zeigarnik effect states that people remember uncompleted or interrupted tasks better than completed tasks. (from wikipedia) The key concept here is uncompleted tasks. We tend to forget the tasks that we've completed, the skills we've mastered, the many, many little things along the way that we've accomplished. We all have to do lists (either written or in our heads) of things that we need to do, but almost nobody keeps an already done list. Why would you, really?
