In recent years, several makers of pipe chanters have offered threaded reed seats. The threads allow you to screw your reed into the chanter. It provides a more secure fit for the reed and allows for more precise tuning. Simply screw the reed in and it moves deeper in the reed seat, unscrew and it comes back out. With a few tools and a little know how, you can do the same for your drone reed seats. It gives the reeds a very secure fit and you'll never have a reed fall into the bag ever again. I also believe the tighter fit keeps the drone reeds firmly attached to the drones and you get a fuller, more stable drone sound.
