I recently had the pleasure of watching the wonderful BBC Documentary "The Glorious Effect." You can view the film below. It gives a fantastic snapshot of the state of piping, and particularly of piobaireachd at the time of filming in the early 1980s. There's some wonderful footage of top pipers of that era competing at Inverness, Falkirk and The Silver Chanter. One thing that struck me was how little things have changed in in the 35+ years since the film was made. The Glenfinnan Highland Gathering still looks the same today.
