I like to try and develop methods and techniques that will help my students make faster progress towards their piping goals. Recently, I've asked my students to complete a brief pre-lesson questionnaire to send to me prior to each lesson. The results have been excellent! I've found the completed questionnaire enhances one-on-one lessons by using our lesson time more efficiently. Also, it seems to help the students use their practice time more effective. I've discovered that many of the best lessons are those where the student has a clear idea of what they want to cover in their lesson: tunes, technical, tuning, reeds, etc. With a completed questionnaire, we spend less time discussing things like "So what have you been working on?" or "What would you like to start with today?" The questionnaire speeds up that process and we can hit the ground running and get right into the good part of the lesson. The pre-lesson ...
