In a couple of days, I'll be heading to Scotland for some of the piping world's biggest and most important competitions. The first big event is the biggest of them all: The World Pipe Band Championships, held over two days: Friday August 15 and Saturday August 16. I am a member of the six-time World Champion Simon Fraser University Pipe Band (I played with the band on three of those wins: 2001, 2008, 2009). The band has also placed second 8 times, and third many more. So, we'll be trying to regain the title this year. After 30 years, our founding pipe major, Terry Lee, stepped down. So this year will be the first year at the Worlds under our new pipe major, Alan Bevan. Alan is a contributor to the BagpipeLessons.com Studio, and I'm hoping we'll be able to hear more from Alan after the busiest time of the year is over. The competition ...
