Taps is a tune often played on the bugle or trumpet at military funerals. However, it can be played on the pipes and, if you perform at funerals, you might have the opportunity to play Taps. Today's post includes the two versions of sheet music for Taps for the pipes with an audio recording of the tune and an audio lesson. Here's some background on the tune (from Wikipedia): usually played on bugle or trumpet for funerals or flag ceremonies "Taps" comes from the Dutch word taptoe "close the (beer) taps (and send the troops back to camp)." The term "military tattoo" comes from the same word (Interesting!). Taps is an unusual tune since it only uses four of the nine notes of the bagpipe scale (A, D, F, high A).
