Every embellishment is theme notes and grace notes, so know which is which. A taorluath is two low Gs split by a D and an E grace note. A doubling is two of the same note, which is why the old books called it a double E. Slow it down and only the theme notes get bigger. The grace notes stay tiny and crisp.
A rodin is a grip turned inside out. It only goes from a bottom-hand note (D, C or B) to low A, the D grace note becomes a B, and that B is played big while the two low Gs get tiny. If it's written with the B grace note, it's a rodin. If it's written with a D, it's a grip.
Missing it? Try less hard, not more. Tension is what stops an F doubling. Practice at three speeds, keep your hands relaxed and your bottom-hand thumb low, and let it get easier and automatic. And play more of your practice on the pipes, not only the chanter.
