A well-tuned pipe band is a spectacular thing. Conversely, a poorly tuned band can be hard to listen to. Many factors contribute a band's ability to produce a great sound, the process of tuning up a pipe band can be tricky. Today's post will describe a step-by-step process for tuning up a pipe band, both drones and chanters. We'll look at the important differences between tuning up a band and tuning up your pipes for a solo performance. Good! Not-so-good... Tuning a solo pipe Most solo pipers will tune up drones to match their low A of the chanter. The exact pitch (e.g. 482 Hz) of the Low A is not really that important (within reason).
