Two beats a bar, three eighth notes to a beat — the dot-cut march that shares its time signature with the jig.

⚡ The Short Version

6/8 means two beats a bar, each built from three eighth notes. The bar's six eighth notes group into threes, giving you two dotted-quarter beats — the building block behind every 6/8 march.

The dot-cut carries the march feel; the middle eighth note carries the timing. Hold the dot, cut the cut hard, then land a plain eighth note that is exactly one third of the beat and never varies — that's the offbeat that makes or breaks the rhythm.
