Today, we start a new feature for the BagpipeLessons.com Studio, our first-ever Featured Piper of the Day: J. David Hester of Baltimore, Maryland, USA. David recently placed first in the Grade 3 Piobaireachd event in the BagpipeLessons.com Online Piping Competition for Spring 2011. David played the modern Piobaireachd The Field of Gold, by Pipe Major Donald MacLeod. As a part of the Featured Piper of the Day series, I asked David to share a bit about himself and his piping background and also about his approach to his tune. David writes: I began playing the pipes when I was 8 years old after a piper came to my 3rd grade class for a "show and tell".
