Today's post features several videos of famous piper Dr. John McAskill. Dr. McAskill is perhaps most known today for his composition Lexy McAskill — a very well-known four-parted reel. Today's videos come from Studio member Beau Buffington, who writes: I had the opportunity to work with Dr. John McAskill at the 1988 College of Piping Summer School in Idyllwild, California. (Back then, I went by my middle name 'Andrew' because I thought it sounded more Scottish than my nickname "Beau"). Also teaching at the school that year were Seamus MacNeill and Jimmy Bayne. In addition to being a well-known composer and judge, McAskill had been a student of and personal physician to Angus MacPherson, a situation which he described as a 'golden opportunity.'
