Memorization is an essential skill for all pipers. Unlike musicians in other traditions, pipers nearly always play their tunes from memory. In performance or competition, it's essential that your tunes are memorized well enough so you won't lost your place in the tune AND so that you feel confident in your ability to play the tunes correctly from memory. In my experience, most pipers tend to focus memorizing their music quickly, rather than memorizing it well. In today's post, I'll describe a method I've developed for memorizing tunes, especially Piobaireachd.
