Using the InTune Mic

The Short Version

Low A is the master note — calibrate the tuner to it before you touch anything else. Clip the mic on the chanter, play naturally, and hit Use Current Average. Drones and every other chanter note are tuned relative to your low A on that day, at that temperature — don't chase a specific number.
The mic puts a perfect ear right at each drone. A tuner can't know which of the bagpipe's four simultaneous sounds to listen to. Clipping the wireless mic a quarter inch from the drone top means the app hears only that drone — so you can tune all three in about a minute, even at a noisy Highland Games.
Steady blowing is the foundation, and the pitch line proves it. If a drone's pitch line waves while you're not touching it, the problem is blowing pressure, moisture, or a reed — and you can't tune a moving pitch. Perfectly tuned pipes are certain evidence of steady blowing.
