High G is the best note in piobaireachd. It is a flattened seventh tuned to the drones, sitting one note away from them, which gives it a dissonant, haunting quality. The great laments lean on it constantly.
Play the tune from the notes, not the title. A backstory can deepen a tune's intensity when it matches the music, but as Andrew Wright taught, the way you play the tune has to come from what is actually written and heard.
