Practice Chanter Session — June 19, 2024

The Short Version

Nearly every taorluath resolves to low A — and the a mach breaks the rule on purpose. About 95 percent of taorluaths go to low A, a few to B or C, and none to D. The taorluath a mach stays on B, C or D and flips the timing, cutting the note before the movement for a startling, almost syncopated effect.
The D taorluath a mach isn't a taorluath at all. It's a G gracenote to B, a light D throw, then an E gracenote back to D — and in the crunluath a mach version, an open edre where the bottom hand stays put until the final E.
Anything too hard becomes playable when you add rungs to the ladder. Simplify the phrase until you can play it relaxed a hundred times, then add back one element at a time — a cut, a gracenote, the low G. The moment your hands tighten, stop and go back a step.
