Getting Ready for Summer Competitions and Performances

The Short Version

Focus only on what you can control: your preparation and how you play in the moment. You cannot control who shows up, how well they play, or who the judges are. Give that zero percent of your attention and pour everything into being ready.
Eliminate surprises before they can happen. Read the fine print, print your entry forms and order of play, check in at the secretary's tent and with your steward, find your platform early, and rehearse everything from unboxing your pipes to greeting the judge.
Compete for the experience, not the prize list. The judge wants to hear something beautiful, not sit through a disaster. Give zero thought to placings — the real payoff is an intense experience that teaches you something about yourself.
