Finding Inspiration & Motivation

The Short Version

Inspiration is a flame you tend, not lightning you wait for. Motivation ebbs and flows for every piper, including me. The players who keep going are the ones who deliberately build routines, connections, and feedback loops that keep the fire lit through the flat stretches.
The most satisfying place in piping is feeling like you're making progress. Adopt the growth mindset: if somebody can do it, they learned to do it, so you can too. Record yourself weekly, take notes, and let small wins become keystone habits that fuel bigger ones.
Look backward to find what will move you forward. Write about three peak experiences from your life and find the patterns: competition, companionship, coaching, solitary work. Then build those exact elements into a concrete three-to-six-month piping goal.
